What is Ecocert Organic Certificate?

Why is Ecocert Certification Important?

Today, consumer interest in organic products has reached a higher level than ever before. As a natural consequence of this situation, brands focused on agricultural activities give priority to emphasizing that they adopt environmentally friendly methods at every stage from production to packaging. The Ecocert certificate comes into play at this point, allowing to prove to what extent this claim is true. Therefore, the certificate is a guide for consumers who attach importance to natural nutrition.

In order for a product produced by adhering to organic farming practices to carry Ecocert certificate, it is sufficient that its content complies with the standards at the rate of 95%. It is important that the remaining 5% content does not contain synthetic substances in the negative list created by Ecocert.

How to Get Ecocert Certificate?

Brands that want to certify their adherence to sustainable agricultural practices with the Ecocert certificate must successfully complete a 5-step process. In the certification process, each step of which must be carried out meticulously, the following stages are passed in order:

Step 1: Application
Ecocert experts determine the needs of the applicant company at the initial stage of the certification process. As a result of a comprehensive needs analysis, the most suitable labels are determined and recommended to the company. Thus, what kind of roadmap will be followed in the continuation of the application process becomes final.

Step 2: Contract
In the next stage of the process, a contract is signed between Ecocert and the applicant company.

Step 3: Initial Audit
In order for a company to be deemed worthy of the Ecocert certificate, all its systems, applications and products must comply with international standards. A team authorized by Ecocert visits the facilities of the applicant company to determine the extent to which this condition can be met, and conducts comprehensive inspections. The audit process, which covers at least one year, is supported by additional controls without prior notice. Sometimes it may even be decided to take samples for laboratory analysis.

Step 4: Reviewing the Certification File
As a result of the first audit, a detailed report is prepared about the company that applied for the certificate. Certification officers review this report and approve or reject the company's application.

Step 5: Approval Phase
After the inspection report is reviewed, the companies that have a positive opinion are entitled to include the logo of the Ecocert organic agriculture certificate on their product labels.

Step 6: Audit Process
Companies that have obtained the Ecocert organic farming certificate are regularly visited by Ecocert auditors. Thus, it is checked whether the practices and products of the companies are sustainable or not.
